Hello, ciao, salut, hallo, hej

Hi, I'm Chantelle. This was once the blog where 20- to 21-year-old me published my insomniac, depressed existential ramblings; now, at the more worldly age of 25, I have made this my latest stab at a writing blog, more specifically a blog for my (spoken word) poetry.

I became fascinated with spoken word poetry late in 2013 upon watching the below YouTube video, published by ButtonPoetry. It features Elliot Darrow at the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational 2013 Finals at the University of North Carolina and his recitation of his poem God is Gay:

Early last year, I finally received a clinical psychiatric diagnosis of the depression I had self-diagnosed nearly five years previous. I began taking medication to treat my depression, then switched to a second when the side-effects from the first proved untenable, and finally to a third when the the second proved less effective than hoped. While riding the medication merry-go-round, I came across Elliot Darrow's poem, and it sparked up an interest and a creativity that I thought had long been smothered. I began writing my own poems within the day, and finished my first poem that night. The ennui of depression has been twining about my heels and dragging at my shoulders, and I hope that having a place and set schedule to publish my poetic attempts will prompt me to keep at it.

Updates will occur on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Wednesday is the day sacred to Woden and Hermes and Mercury and Vithal, gods of communication and poetry and writing; I could think of no better day to update than this.
